The Ogun State Government has sent a delegation to visit churches and mosques in the state to ascertain their level of preparedness to reopen for religious activities.
The delegation comprises the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker; her counterparts in Physical Planning and Urban Development, and Environment, Tunji Odunlami, and Abiodun Abudu-Balogun respectively.
It (delegation) held a meeting with clerics after they inspected preventive equipment provided by respective faith-based organisations.
Members of the group visited churches and mosques in Ijebu, Remo and Egba of the state.
Addressing journalists after the visit, Health commissioner, Coker, noted that mixed reactions were noticed among the religious bodies on their level of preparedness.
She said, “We observed mixed reactions from the religious leaders on their level of preparedness because some have shown that they cannot actually guarantee the safety of their congregants from the COVID-19 pandemic and there are some that have complied with the laid down protocols.”
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Environment, Abudu-Balogun, commended some of the worship centres for their level of preparedness towards reopening.
Responding, Chief Imam of Ijebuland, Sheikh Gbadegesin Ayanbadejo, also lauded the state government for the innumerable developmental strides and efforts towards containing the spread of COVID-19.
Also, the Cathedral Administrator, St. Sebastian’s Cathedral, Odo-Egbo in Ijebu Ode, Reverend Father Vincent Ajayi, said the visit by the government officials was an indication of the commitment of the Governor Dapo Abiodun administration towards ensuring the safety of lives of the people.
