A yet-to-be-identified driver narrowly escaped death on Wednesday when a Julius Berger truck rammed into another truck around the Otedola Jubilee Estate area of Lagos State.
It was gathered that the driver was doing some repairs underneath the vehicle, which was parked along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, when the truck ran into it from behind.
The impact of the collision scattered parts of both vehicles and the driver sustained injuries in his jaw and head.
Some good Samaritans were said to have rushed the driver to the emergency centre at the old tollgate area of the state for treatment.
An eyewitness, who identified himself simply as Benjamin, said the accident happened because the brakes of the Julius Berger truck failed.
He stated, “The truck broke down and the driver and his motor boy were trying to repair it. But while the driver was doing the repairs underneath the vehicle, the Julius Berger truck rammed into it and crushed the truck and the driver in the process.
“From what we gathered, the Julius Berger truck suffered a brake failure, but only the driver, who was working underneath his truck, got injured. His jaw was broken and he also sustained injuries on his head.
“We called several people to come to his rescue, but when no one answered us, we had to rush him down to the emergency centre along the expressway in a tricycle. The driver of the Julius Berger truck and the other motor boy escaped with no injuries.”
