Bandits on Tuesday night killed two persons after abducting them in Kandawa village, Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
This is as policemen, witht the assistance of repentant cattle rustlers, rescued nine out of 17 women abducted by hoodlums in Safana LGA of the state.
Residents said the bandits, who stormed the village in large numbers, also rustled some animals.
The Batsari Divisional Police Officer, was, however, said to have led security team to the village to tackle the bandits.
The bandits reportedly shot the two victims dead and abandoned the rustled animals on sighting the security team before they fled to the forest.
Spokesman for the Katsina Police Command, Gambo Isah, confirmed the development.
He said, “Yes, the incident happened. The DPO, Batsari, led a team to repel the bandits at Kandawa village following distressed calls. The bandits, on sighting the police vehicles, shot dead the two victims they had earlier abducted and also abandoned the animals they had earlier rustled before fleeing to the forest.”
The command spokesman also confirmed that a combined team of police and repentant cattle rustlers, had rescued nine out of 17 women kidnapped by bandits in Zakka village, Safana Local Government Area on Sunday night.
Isah said, “The police team, in collaboration with repentant rustlers, has rescued nine out of 17 women earlier kidnapped by bandits in Zakka village on Sunday night. Our men and the repentant rustlers are still searching the bush with a view to rescuing the rest.”
