The Rivers State Command on Thursday said some policemen, soldiers and officials the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have been arrested for collecting bribe and allowing motorists to move in and out of the state illegally.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, who said this in a telephone interview, said the security personnel were apprehended during the monitoring of the state land boundaries by the Commissioner of Police, Mustapha Dandaura, and other service commanders.
“Some of the persons – police, soldiers and NSCDC officials – trying to compromise the process have already been arrested but I don’t have the number. We are not relenting on this; the CP is moving round the borders with the service commanders.”
10 arrested in FCT illegal checkpoint for extortion
Meanwhile, a joint security team led by Nyanya Divisional Police Officer has arrested 10 suspects for extorting motorists at an illegal roadblock at the Federal Capital Territory and Nasarawa State boundaries.
The suspects were reportedly arrested by the security operatives of the COVID-19 lockdown enforcement team along Nyanya-Mararaba axis.
The FCT police spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, in a statement in Abuja on Thursday said N7,180 suspected to be proceeds of the crime had been recovered as an exhibit, adding that the suspects would be arraigned after investigation.
