The Kano State Police Command on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of 18 suspects, who allegedly violated the lockdown order of the state government.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the arrests were effected at Kano Municipal, Garko, Karaye and Taurauni local government areas of the state.
He said, “The suspects were arrested for leading Jumat prayers in violation of the social distancing and lockdown directive.”
Haruna reiterated the commitment of the command to enforce compliance with the order as well as protect lives and property in the state.
The state governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, had ordered a lockdown for an initial seven days, which commenced on April 16, in order to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
