The Senator representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, Opeyemi Bamidele, has donated N10m to the Ekiti State Government to assist in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic in the state.
Bamidele, who is Chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, according to a release on Wednesday, said the donation was to identify with the state government and the people in combating the pandemic.
The senator’s donation came a day after Governor Kayode Fayemi set up an eight-man Support Account Committee to tackle the pandemic in the state.
Bamidele noted that the donation was outside the resolve of the 109 senators to donate half of their monthly salaries to the national COVID-19 account.
The senator said, “A sum of N5m has been paid into the state’s COVID-19 account while the remaining N5m will go into the centrally-coordinated food drive initiative, specifically targeted at the vulnerable population in the senatorial district.
