Two killed, homes burnt in fresh Jukun/Tiv clash

Gunmen suspected to be Jukun militia attacked Ibua village along Wukari-Ibi Road in  the Ibi Local Government Area of  Taraba State on  Thursday, killing  two people and razing many  homes.

Residents, who spoke to our correspondent, said the hoodlums attacked the village around  7.30pm.

An eyewitness, Orhembaga Laregh, told our correspondent on the telephone that the attackers shot indiscriminately when they arrived in the community.

Another eyewitness, Terngu Deior, told our correspondent that he was sitting in front of his house when suddenly he saw armed men trooping into the village from Wukari area.

He said, “I escaped through the backdoor and ran to the nearby police checkpoint but there was nobody to report to.”

Spokesman for the police in the state, ASP David Misal, confirmed the attack.

Missal said, “Information available to us indicates that gunmen suspected to be Jukun youths attacked a Tiv village in the Ibi LGA and killed two people.

“They also burnt some  thatch houses during  the attack believed to be  between the Jukun and  Tiv in the area.

“The Divisional Police Officer  of Ibi is leading officers on a manhunt  for  the attackers.”

Governor Darius Ishaku during a peace meeting convened by the Federal Government in Abuja to end the crisis  in  September 2019  said the crisis was an internal affair of Taraba and pledged to end it.
