Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has said the Federal Government is supporting the plans of the state and Lagos State to rehabilitate and toll three roads that link communities in the two states.
Abiodun said the Federal Government was ready to partner the two states on the proposed takeover of the roads including the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway; Ikorodu-Ogijo-Sagamu and Epe-Ijebu Ode.
Some online reports have quoted Abiodun as confirming that the Federal Government had declined to hand over the roads to the two states.
But Abiodun said on his Twitter handle that the Federal Government was “in support of the brilliant intercessory initiative and has never declined consent.”
The governor disclosed that he and Lagos State counterpart, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, would soon be in Abuja to attend a meeting to finalise modalities for the initiative.
Abiodun explained further that it was not likely that the Federal Government would completely hand over the roads to the two states.
He noted that the role of the federal authorities would be spelt out in the agreement to be reached at the Abuja meeting with the Federal Ministry of Works.
