The Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Usman Nagogo, has said repentant bandits in the state have resorted to fighting their colleagues who are not ready to call it quits with banditry.
Addressing reporters in his office on Tuesday, Nagogo said he was happy that “the trust we built has started to bring positive results”.
He said, “The bandits trust the peace process and are now becoming our eye and ear in the forest.”
According to the CP, the repentant bandits are ready to take on their colleagues who are not ready to embrace peace.
He said, “On July 25, 2019, an AK-47 rifle with breech No. 701883/1988 with four rounds of live ammunition was brought to me by one of the elders in one of the districts in Maru Local Government Area after they had killed a recalcitrant bandit.
“On August 19, 2019, an AK-47 rifle with breech No. 56/1210035/00 was also recovered from another bandit. He has since paid for the crime he intended to commit.
“On August 26, 2019, another AK-47 rifle with breech No. 0701421 was recovered by one of the (repentant) bandits in Birnin Magaji from one of his boys who attempted to rustle cows. But he was arrested by the master himself and the AK-47 rifle has since been handed over to the CP.”
