The Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State on Sunday suspended a close ally of former Governor Ayodele Fayose, Dr Samuel Omotoso, for alleged anti-party activities.
In a letter unanimously signed by the executives of the PDP in Oye Local Government and chairmen of the 11 wards in the council, Omotoso, a member of the immediate past House of Assembly, was suspended for allegedly engineering parallel party executives in the council area.
The party leaders passed a vote of confidence on the PDP chairman in the council, Mr Sunday Ojo, saying the era of imposition was over.
They stated, “The party has consequently constituted a three-man committee in strict adherence to the party’s constitution to investigate the allegation.
“The committee is to conduct unbiased investigation and make necessary recommendations within two weeks on the allegation.”
But Omotoso, who described those behind the said suspension as “jesters”, alleged that Ojo, who was leader of the group, had already been suspended from the party by the State Working Committee and as such had no statutory powers to suspend him.
Omotoso said, “I want you to ignore the group as they are only seeking for relevance. The sponsor has been suspended by the most powerful political organisation in Ekiti’, the SWC, so I don’t know where he got that power from”.
