Drama as gunmen kidnap another Katsina poly lecturer


There was a palpable fear among Katsina residents on Friday following the abduction of a lecturer at  Hassan Usman Polytechnic in the Katsina State capital, Dr Bashir  Ruwangodiya.



  Ruwangodiya went to deliver the ransom demanded by the kidnappers of another lecturer in the school, Dr Bello Birch,  when he too was abducted.



Birch of the Department of Technical Education was kidnapped by gunmen on Thursday.



Ruwangodiya, who is the chairman of the coalition of civil society in the state, is also immediate past Senior Special Assistant to Governor Aminu Masari on Higher Education.



A source told our correspondent, “They(the abductors) are  demanding more money for the release of the two lecturers  in their custody.”



The chairman of  Senior Staff Association of the polytechnic, Mansur Garba,  confirmed Ruwangodiya’s kidnap,  describing it as unfortunate.



An emergency meeting was being held between the management and staff of the institution on the incident as of Friday evening.



Spokesman for Katsina police in the state, SP Gambo Isah,  said he was yet to be briefed about the incident.



He said, “The DPO of the area is yet to brief me about the incident. I will get across to you when I have been  briefed.”
