The Independent National Electoral Commission will on Saturday (today) conduct supplementary elections in four local government areas of Rivers State.
The elections are for the state House of Assembly in Abua/Odual, Opobo/Nkoro, Ahoada West and Gokana local government areas where voting either did not hold or were disrupted.
INEC’s Head of Voters Education and Publicity in Rivers State, Edwin Enabor, stated that the commission was ready to conduct a hitch-free exercise in the affected areas.
Enabor maintained that the commission’s ad hoc staff had already been deployed to various local government areas to manage the polls.
He said, “Everything is in order; we are prepared as materials are already in the local government areas.
“The electoral officers have already got their materials and I think we are ready to go.
“We have two LGAs that elections held but were inconclusive and they are Opobo/Nkoro and Ahoada West.
“Also, in Abua/Odual LGA, during the March 9, 2019 elections, the exercise did not hold as materials were not allowed to leave the INEC office by the people there.
“Finally, in Gokana, elections took place but was disrupted and there was no results from the local government area.”
