The Christian Association of Nigeria, Taraba State chapter, on Monday said it had uncovered plans by some politicians to cause mayhem and disrupt Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.
The state Chairman of the association, Rev Innocent Solomon, said this at a press conference in Jalingo.
Solomon said the association was in possession of a document which detailed how the plans were to be executed.
He said some people planned to cause mayhem in some designated places in the state capital.
The plan, he added, was to cause a postponement of the elections so that a new date could be fixed to give undue advantage to one of the political parties.
He said, “Should this first plan fail, they will then attack the Independent National Electoral Commission’s office in Jalingo on Monday, March 11, by 5pm when collation of the governorship election results will be taking place.
“The plan is to manipulate the results in favour of a particular political party. Failure of INEC officials to cooperate with them will see them destroying the office.
“Information available to us indicate that the evil plan will enjoy the cover of the newly posted commissioner of police in the state who will instruct his men to look the other way in the face of this ugly event.”
Meanwhile, the Spiritual Director, Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke, Anambra State, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, has asked Nigerians to avoid shedding of blood before, during and after the Saturday governorship and state House of Assembly elections across the country.
Obimma made the call in Iwene Tansi Catholic Church Umudioka, Dunukofia Local Government Area on Monday.
He said the reported killing of no fewer than 35 persons during the February 23 presidential and National Assembly elections across the country was not good enough.
