The Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi, has urged the military to take a cue from the security measures obtainable in other countries to rid the country of kidnappers and criminals.
Egbeyemi, who reiterated his earlier call for review of withdrawal of soldiers from checkpoints on the major roads in the state, lamented that the rate of kidnapping in the state increased after military personnel were withdrawn from checkpoints across the state.
The deputy governor spoke on Sunday during a church service to mark this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day at the Government House Chapel, Ado Ekiti, the state capital, where he stressed the need to remember fallen heroes and take proper care of those presently serving in the military.
He said, “In Nigeria, the security system is not as it is abroad. You must have gone out to some of these countries. And those of us who have been to Britain, American and China, must have seen military personnel in the market and everywhere watching over the people.
“We should imbibe the same spirit to make sure that we are safe. We need to keep Nigeria one by making sure everybody is safe.
“We know the impact of removing soldiers from the roads. I pray that you have a better alternative. Immediately you removed your men from the roads, the kidnappers started operating. We have been given the assurance that the alternative you will provide will be far more better,” he told the Brigade Commander of the Nigerian Army 323 Artillery Regiment, Akure, Brig.Gen. James Ataguba.
