The Lagos State House Committee on Education today Tuesday,
June 13, 2017 condemned the brutalization of Students of LASPOTECH which took
place during the peaceful demonstration staged by the Students to end the
ongoing strike action rocking the institution.
The Panel which had the Students' Union Leadership, the
three Staff Unions (ASUP, NASU & SSANIP), the Management Team,
Representatives of the Special Adviser on Education to the Governor, and
Honorable Members including; Hon. Lanre Ogunyemi (Chairman, House Committee on
Education), Hon. Funmi Tejuosho, Hon. Akeem Sokunle and others in attendance
was set up to ensure that the present crisis rocking the Polytechnic is
permanently brought to a dead end.
In a release signed by LASPOTECH Student Union Government
(LASPOSUG), the Chairman of the
Committee, Hon. Lanre Ogunyemi, the Invasion of the Soldiers and the
brutalization of the innocent Students who were only fighting for their rights
was uncalled for. He then called on the Management of the Polytechnic to be
more committed to the Welfare of the Students at large.
Similalrly, LASPOSUG has urged every student of the
institution to remain calm and give their total support to the union .
“We urge you all to continue to remain calm, and give your
total support to the Students' Union leadership. We are very committed to
seeing that the crisis comes to an end and the return of academic activities on
campus with immediate effect,”
“Again, we urge you all to debunk any insinuations from any
quarters that the Students' Union is polarized. We stand not with the Staff
Unions, Management Team or any individual but we stand only with the Students
of the Citadel of learning,”
“We remain indivisible and are committed to your cause,” it
stated.
